The Walking Dead Onslaught is an upcoming action game developed by Survios, the team behind VR hits like Raw Data and Creed: Rise to Glory. Onslaught is based on the AMC series rather than the comic books, unlike the recent game The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners. That game was based on the comics, and will not be connected to Survios’ upcoming title.
Thanks to the recent trailer released by Survios we now have an official release date. The Walking Dead Onslaught will release on PSVR, Steam VR and Oculus Rift headsets on September 29th 2020. You can check out the trailer below.
In the Campaign mode you play as Daryl Dixon between the events of Season 8 and 9, after the Savior War ended. He goes on a supply run and meets a mysterious stranger. Norman Reedus, who portrays Daryl in the show, has lended his voice to the character in this game so it should feel like an authentic part of his story.
There will also be a replayable Supply Run mode, in which you can play as Daryl, Carol, Michonne and Rick Grimes. You will venture out to retrieve supplies to aid in rebuilding Alexandria after the Saviors decimated it during the events of Season 8.
Multiplayer was originally planned for this mode but unfortunately multiplayer will no longer feature in the game at all. However, there are still plenty of thrills to be had, even though you’ll be fighting alone. The game features a Progressive Dismemberment system that, according to Survios, will ‘realistically depict your every attack against the undead’. I can’t wait to play the game and discover how good the combat system actually feels. Survios certainly are renowned for their melee combat after their Creed game, so it’s one to keep an eye on.
The Walking Dead fans have a lot to look forward to. The Walking Dead Onslaught release date of September 29th is just days before the Season 10 Finale of the show airs on AMC. The crew announced at Comic Con Live that it will air on October 4th. It was meant to air in April but got delayed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
Pre-orders are available now on Oculus Home and Steam, with PlayStation VR pre-orders coming soon. Are you excited for The Walking Dead Onslaught? Let me know in the comments, or on my social medias which are linked below!
